Festival site

From the Jibberjazz web site:

Meeting of the Minds II will be a full weekend musical extravaganza featuring 17 bands, late-night jams, fire performances, numerous solo artists, light shows, kids activities, food & craft vendors, camping, and music.

The site, located just 20 miles north of Allentown, is a beautiful 30-acre, privately owned property in Wind Gap, PA. The new venue features plenty of woodsy camping, permanent stage, showers, and electricity access for RV’s.

Join us for a weekend of madness and mayhem as we attempt to conjure up some of that small festival energy which helped our Some Kind of Jam series of festivals gain underground adoration.

As always, Jibberjazz will showcase a wide variety of musical styles including Jam, Funk, Bluegrass, Folk, Blues, Rock etc. Join us for the festival as we cement our position as both an early and late season musical destination.

News: Holy god we have been busy

We haven't been in touch much lately...things have been nuts. Anyway, lots of shows coming up this summer, including a couple of festivals, which should be a lot of fun. Do us a favor and buy your festival tickets from us, wouldja? That's how we get paid. Just email elissa@thelobsterquadrille.com for Scottypaluza or Meeting of the Minds III tix.

Next up is the Bug Jar, Saturday, May 29 with Action Camp. These guys are AWESOME and worth the price of admission alone. Add us to the bill and now it's like you're MAKING money by coming to this show. It's going to be hot schtuff.

Just found out we'll be doing halftime at the Roc City Roller Derby bout in June, which should be fun too. Come and watch ladies hurt each other. And we'll be playing through the beer.

Also just got booked for this year's Wedgestock, which should be a hoot. Enjoy Rochester's finest up-and-coming neighborhood to the sounds of Rochester's dapperest devil smoochers.

That's all for now. We're going to try and get some new songs up on this page here in a minute for chrissakes and try to be better about changing them out. We've got hours of live stuff that hasn't seen the light of day yet, so maybe we'll throw some of that your way.

Shemhamforash, y'all.

Got a lot of live stuff we have yet to do anything with, so we're going to try and start adding a couple of these on a regular basis.

We've also posted our Manifesto of the New Southern Gothic on the bio page, for anyone who's ever wondered what the hell we're trying to get at here. See y'all at the Bug Jar on the 29th!

Come on out, kiddies, this is going to be a hell of a good time. Devilz in the Detailz refer to themselves as "gothabilly," and they've got a great, reverb-drenched, Wanda Jackson meets Herman Munster thing going on.
News: New video!

We are very pleased to present a video for The Crystal Spring--a film by Marc Bollmann, co-directed by Kelly McDonald. We recommend that you load it in HD, turn down the lights, and play it at full screen.

Our sincere thanks to Marc for his hard work in producing such a beautiful piece, and to Kelly for traveling from Pittsburgh to take her place at the helm as well. Thanks are also due to Jen for making the trip from the Iron City in order to discharge camera duties; Kelly Glover for running around in the snow on one of the coldest weekends in recent memory wearing nothing but a thin, white dress; to Holly for her hospitality extended to a large, shivering, soaked crew; Jamie for cutting a handsome figure while slogging through the woods with us; Dee for hanging out and providing moral support; Kevin and Lauren for opening their home (and pantry) in Nunda; Pam/Amber/Amy/Lauren for doing the makeup; Mark/Kevin for supplying tools; and Elissa for braving the elements to get stills. The Lobster Quadrille also wishes to thank John Powers and John Jameson & Sons for making the enormous quantities of bracing Irish whiskey that sustained us during the shoot.

Enjoy!

By the time you were aware of the combined calamity and effect, you were already swept up in it. It was inspiring, haunting, and incredible, with frontman Solomon Blaylock leading the whole damned revival with utter glee. It was as if he had the whole flock in the lifeboat, but the lake was on fire. - Rochester City Newspaper

Press: The Lobster Quadrille

The Lobster Quadrille presents flawlessly, dressed like high-society Southerners (circa 1940), and they jam with a bible-thumping seriousness. The result is a raucous jubilee played by the ghosts of culture past. - Examiner (Rochester, NY)

News: News! Tickets! Misprints!

Um, just in case you picked up the print copy of Metromix Rochester this week, let us assure that NO ONE IN THE LOBSTER QUADRILLE IS A JEHOVAH'S WITNESS, PRACTICING OR OTHERWISE. Fortunately the nice lady who wrote the article was able to correct the editorial online, but the print edition maintains the error. Yikes. J-Dubs everywhere are doubtless chagrined.

As we have been noting over and over again of late, this Friday (Jan 8) is your chance to catch the LQ live and GRATIS with The Lovesick Heartstabbers and Danny Deutch (must be a German feller). Come on out and spend the money you saved on the cover at the BAR.

THEN, on Wednesday, January 13 (the absurd proximity is not lost on us, gentle reader), catch us at The Club at Water Street in the august company of Devil Springs. Tix are $5 at the door...a bit more through Ticketmaster...but Email us and we'll get 'em to you for a paltry THREE CLAMS. That's how we make dough on this one, kids, so give us a holler.

Then we'll recuperate a bit (while making sure to catch Schwindler and Big Ben at the Bug Jar on Wed, Jan 20--not to be missed) before coming back out Downstairs at the German House in February. See y'all soon.

Press: Group's singer promises a 'hell of a lot of fun' during CD release party

"It is ramshackle, clanky and sometimes it is very gospel" Blaylock says. "There are ragged blues and punk and klezmer in there. The CD is a bit more nuanced than the live performances, so there is slow burn. (There's) cues taken from band marches and reggae and a lot of other things." - Metromix Rochester

Press: Leader of the local Southern Gothic band talks about sex, death religion and other influences

We really used to play up that satanic tent revival thing — which is definitely an aspect of what we do. I’m sure it’ll always be an aspect, but if you actually listen to this CD and look at the lyrics, a lot of them deal with sort of metaphysical concerns. There really isn’t a lot of the explicit faux-religiosity thing coming through. - Metromix Rochester

Live, the Lobster Quadrille – which at the time of this recording consisted of seven members but has since expanded – summons a formidable, muscular sound with a high measure of precision and command. In fact, it’s the band’s ability to pull back that ultimately puts a stronger accent on its aggressive side. - Roc! Rochester

Whether you listen to its latest EP, Southern Apologist, or stand in the choir that is preached upon, The Lobster Quadrille offers true-to-life tales of love, death, sex, drugs and divorce, and the gospel of a truly tortured soul. Its haunted gospel sound hints at mood-setters like Johnny Cash, Dame Darcy and Nick Cave, while maintaining the charge of Devo, The Sonics and Manchester post-punk. - Pittsburgh City Paper

Press: The Lobster Quadrille Doesn't Need an Amen

The Lobster Quadrille is a seven-piece band steeped in faded-lace Southern gothic pathos, ethos, superstition, and doom. Sepia-toned songs of cotillions, consumption, damnation, elation, and salvation pour out like the sweat on frontman Solomon Blaylock's brow. The band's ragtag hobo instrumentality ---- clarinet, organ, tambourine, bucket, washboard, slide whistle, kazoo, pots 'n' pans, and odds 'n' ends, along with the more rudimentary guitar, bass, and drums --- gives The Lobster Quadrille the feel of a post-war carnival...if that carnival were to break out in the middle of a funeral. - Rochester City Newspaper
